Sand
Island Recreation area has several large panels of Petroglyphs
on the cliffs bordering the San Juan River. The panels include
petroglyphs from several different styles and time frames.
Notable items include a large flute player,
sometimes known as Kokopelli. There are also several
smaller flute players to be found on the panels.
Sand
Island has an unpaved but decent road that comes fairly close
to the petroglyphs. Additional amenities include a campground
and access to the river, thus making it easier for visitors
to come and and enjoy the area.
Location: Southern Utah. Three or four miles west of Bluff, Utah. Look for signs
indicating Sand Island Recreation Area.
